HPV symptoms vary based on the type of virus the person is infected with (there are over 100 different HPV types). Most people who have a genital HPV infection do not know they are infected and never have any symptoms. Some people get visible genital warts or have precancerous changes in the cervix, vulva, anus, or penis. In rare cases, HPV infection results in anal or genital cancer. People who are infected by other types of HPV, those that aren't sexually transmitted, may develop common warts on their hands or feet, or have no symptoms at all.
