How Can HPV Be Transmitted?

HPV is transmitted via skin-to-skin contact. There are over different 100 types of HPV viruses. At least 30 of these viruses can be sexually transmitted.

HPV transmission occurs easily among sexual partners. This is evidenced by the fact that at least 50 percent of sexually active men and women acquire a genital HPV infection at some point in their lives. By the age of 50, at least 80 percent of women will have acquired a genital HPV infection.
