Before making a diagnosis of genital warts, the healthcare provider will also consider other conditions that share similar signs or symptoms. Some of these conditions include:

Molluscum contagiosum
Pearly penile papules
Bowenoid papulosis
Skin cancer, including squamous cell carcinoma or malignant melanoma
Genital herpes
Condyloma lata
Moles
Seborrheic keratoses
Skin tag (acrochordon).
