Genital warts, which are a type of sexually transmitted disease (STD), are caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). They usually appear as soft, moist, or flesh-colored swellings and are usually found in or around the anus or vagina and on the penis, scrotum, vulva, or cervix. While there is no cure for HPV, genital warts can be treated with prescription medications or certain medical procedures.
